Braille Books for the Visually-Impaired in Bangladesh

A report by Maisha Bellal, a volunteer

I have been involved with SHEBI (The Society to Help Education in Bangladesh International, for a year now. So, when I was asked to collect some donations of books and toys for SHEBI to bring to Bangladesh I was extremely excited. I began by searching for schools in Massachusetts for the visually impaired. I expanded and called multiple nonprofit organizations, centers, schools, and charities within my city, area, and eventually broadened my search across the state. The Lowell Center for the Blind, kept in touch with me and was the only place to contact me after almost 2 weeks of trying to find some books or toys. They informed me of the books that they were kind enough to donate and how to pick them up. I am proud to announce that we have been able to collect these large boxes of books that will be used in Bangladesh.

The books were picked up by Mr. Raja Khan of Burlington who is a regular donor to SHEBI. Eventually Mr. Tamjid of Northboro did a great favor to SHEBI by taking the books to SHEBI Center in Dhaka.

Elizabeth M. Cannon Executive Director Lowell Association for the Blind was very kind to donate the books to SHEBI for Bangladesh.
